What it treats

Surgical orthodontics combines braces with corrective jaw surgery to treat differences that braces alone can’t fully correct.

When the upper and lower jaws don’t meet correctly — because of their size or position — moving the teeth isn’t always enough. In these cases we work alongside an oral and maxillofacial surgeon to reposition the jaws and create a stable, comfortable bite.

It’s recommended for skeletal discrepancies and more pronounced bite problems, usually once jaw growth is complete in the late teens or adulthood.

How treatment works

Surgical cases are a team effort, planned carefully from start to finish.

Treatment usually begins with braces to align the teeth within each jaw, followed by surgery to reposition the jaws, then a final phase of braces to fine-tune the bite. The whole journey typically takes 18 months to two years.

We coordinate closely with your surgeon at every stage and guide you through what to expect, so you’re fully informed and supported throughout.
